International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP)
- The Diploma Program provides students with an excellent academic foundation in a broad range of subject areas.
- Students write a 4,000-word independent research paper, giving them an early university experience.
- The Creativity, Action, Service program engages students in creative pursuits, physical activities and community service.
- Through the Theory of Knowledge course, students critically evaluate knowledge claims and judgments.
The IB Diploma Programme is exceptionally strong in the areas of key cognitive strategies, problem solving, critical thinking, analysis, research and writing skills. The IB students develop the ability to interpret, analyze, think critically and present arguments. They learn to question and reflect on what they know. They also learn to research, write and present what they have learned.
IB DP students gain knowledge from the excellent range and breadth of academic subjects they choose. They also extend their skills in critical thinking, time management, develop an awareness of global issues and grasp the importance of being a lifelong learner. The IB DP curriculum expects students to become internationally minded and to care for the world they live in.
Students study six courses – usually three at Higher Level (HL) and three at Standard Level (SL). Students must choose one subject from each of groups 1 to 5 – ensuring breadth of experience in languages, social studies, sciences and mathematics. The sixth subject may be an arts subject chosen from group 6, or the student may choose another subject from groups 1 to 4.
The IB – DP has emerged as the single truly international pre university high school program. It is recognized as an excellent educational system. Contrary to popular perception, it is not just meant for elite or international students. Any well-motivated student would find this program more than useful in pursuit of his or her life aims.
A growing number of universities in India and in more than a hundred countries hold IB students in high regard is enough of a testimony to confirm that IB is the board of the future.
The Core Elements
Extended Essay (EE) is an essay of 4000 words providing an excellent opportunity to undertake original research and learn more about a topic of special interest to the student. The essay is assessed by an external examiner. Theory of Knowledge (TOK) aims to address critical thinking. Issues from the fields of Logic, Ethics and Philosophy are discussed. TOK is graded in the form of an essay that is submitted and externally assessed and an internally assessed oral presentation. Creativity, Action and Service (CAS) allows the student to experience the importance of life outside school. CAS challenges and help students to develop a spirit of discovery and self-reliance as well as encourages new skills and interests and a sense of responsibility towards all members of the community.
